No amateur radio blog post today. I’m doing some Christmas baking. Below, are two Slovak specialties: roski and butki (nut and poppyseed rolls). My grandmother turned her kitchen into a bakery at Christmastime and turned out a piles of roski, nut rolls, and more. My mother was a roski genius, and my sister, Annette, has become our family’s nut roll expert.
I’m quite happy with my roski. They’re not like my mother’s, though. they have a flakier, more puffy pastry.
I’m less happy with the nut rolls. As you can see, they’ve burst, so they look a mess. They remind of some of my ham radio projects that didn’t quite work out.
They taste pretty good, but I’m not going to qualify for the Great British Baking Show with nut roll that look like that.
