Special Event Mania
I guess it’s because it’s the Fourth of July weekend, but I just worked four special event stations in a row, with no special effort on my part.
The first one was VE2008VQ. This station is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, Quebec. I worked this station on 30m CW, and I think this may be the first special event station I’ve worked on 30m. According to the ARI DX Calendar, they will be on the air through July 27, 2008.
The second station worked was W3O, a ham radio demonstration station at White Oak, PA Community Day. This station was being manned by the Two Rivers Amateur Radio Club.
Next, I worked W4ABR, at the 37th Annual Jonesborough Days, Jonesboro, TN. According the op, Jonesboro is Tennessee’s oldest town.
Finally, I contacted N2WEA, which was celebrating the 100th Anniversary Flight of the June Bug - Glenn H. Curtiss aviator. This event was held in conjunction with the the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY.
On the ARRL Special Events page, I count 18 overall operating this weekend. Arguably the most interesting is K3FBI, being run by the FBI Amateur Radio Association, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. See the FBI History Page for more on the agency’s history.
